Amazon reportedly acquired Touchco, a start-up specializing in touchscreens. Although not as precise and elegant as iPad’s screen, the Touchco technology is much cheaper and uses resistors, sensitive to different levels of pressure. The screen can apparently distinguish between the touch of a finger and the pressure of a pen or other pointing devices.
This is a smart move for Amazon’s Kindle devision, putting it back in the game and head to head with Apple while most likely maintaining a significant price advantage over the latter in the battle of the EBook stores.
NY Times has the details.
